Job summary

AMR Bookkeeping Solutions in Tonbridge is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper for a full-time, client-facing role covering day-to-day bookkeeping, VAT and CIS returns, and management accounts.

You will process and reconcile transactions, maintain records, and provide credit control services while using Xero and other software. A flexible, supportive team and hybrid working after probation are offered.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar accounts role.
• Strong practical experience using Xero is essential.
• Experience with Sage, QuickBooks and FreeAgent would be advantageous, although training can be provided where required.
• Good understanding of double-entry bookkeeping, VAT and financial record keeping.
• Experience preparing VAT returns and CIS returns is highly desirable.
• Experience of payroll processing would be advantageous.
• Ideally, experience working within an accountancy or bookkeeping practice, or in a role managing the accounts of multiple clients.
• Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Able to manage your own workload, work independently and use your own initiative, while knowing when to ask for support.
• Comfortable working to deadlines and managing competing priorities.
• Good organisational and time-management skills.
• Confident communicating with clients and able to explain bookkeeping, VAT and accounting matters clearly.
• Willingness to learn, develop your skills and keep up to date with changes in accounting and tax legislation.
• Full driving licence, as the role may involve visiting clients at their premises.

Responsibilities

• Completing day-to-day bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients.
• Processing and reconciling financial transactions and maintaining accurate accounting records.
• Preparing and submitting VAT returns.
• Preparing and submitting CIS returns.
• Preparing management accounts and financial reports for clients.
• Providing credit control services and helping clients manage outstanding payments.
• Supporting clients with their accounting and bookkeeping requirements using Xero and other accounting software.
• Liaising directly with clients to resolve queries relating to bookkeeping, VAT, CIS and financial records.
• Visiting client premises, where required, and providing a professional, friendly and knowledgeable service.
• Working closely with colleagues to ensure client work is completed accurately and within agreed deadlines.
• Keeping up to date with relevant HMRC requirements, VAT rules, CIS requirements and accounting legislation.
