Job summary

Time Appointments are recruiting on behalf of a trusted Accountancy Firm in Colchester for an experienced Bookkeeper. This is a fantastic opportunity in a supportive environment that values accuracy and client service.

You will manage a portfolio of small business clients, prepare VAT returns, and produce management accounts, with hybrid working options and an on-site gym as part of an attractive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in bookkeeping or accounting, preferably in an accountancy practice.
• Experience managing multiple client portfolios across businesses.
• Strong technical bookkeeping knowledge up to trial balance.
• Experience preparing VAT returns and management accounts.
• Excellent attention to detail and methodical data handling.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; identify discrepancies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with clients.
• Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a busy environment.
• Strong IT skills, especially Excel; experience with bookkeeping software.
• Proactive, organized; able to work independently and in a team.
• AAT qualification or equivalent; practical experience considered.

Responsibilities

• Manage portfolio of small business clients for bookkeeping and accounting services.
• Review and prepare accounts to trial balance.
• Prepare VAT returns and perform bank reconciliations.
• Prepare management accounts and maintain fixed asset register.
• Liaise with clients and resolve queries; ensure accuracy and deadlines.
