Job summary

Datatonic in Newcastle is seeking a highly organized, tech-forward Legal Counsel to join our internal legal function. You will lead on commercial agreements and legal workflows, setting up a central contract database and accelerating review processes with cutting-edge AI.

Working with sales, finance and delivery, you will provide practical advice across data protection (GDPR), compliance, and governance, drafting, negotiating MSAs, NDAs, and DPAs, and building playbooks for repeatable,

Qualifications

• Solicitor with 3–6 years PQE in a top-tier law firm or fast-paced in-house tech environment.
• Proven track record negotiating complex commercial tech or professional services agreements.
• Experience implementing or maintaining standardised contract management frameworks and databases.
• Ability to apply legal principles practically in-house.
• Proficiency with generative AI tools and AI-driven workflows.
• Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Contract Architecture & Governance: Oversee central contract repository, lifecycle management, renewal tracking, and standardised playbooks across the business.
• Commercial Contract Reviews: Drafting, negotiation and risk mitigation for MSAs, NDAs, and DPAs.
• AI Tooling & Workflow Automation: Design playbooks, prompts, and automated workflows using AI tools to streamline redlining and risk identification.
• Multidisciplinary In-House Advisory: Provide pragmatic legal advice on employment law, data protection, compliance, and governance.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as main liaison for sales, finance, and delivery on commercial terms and governance.
