Mechanical Maintenance Engineer - HMP Thameside

We're recruiting for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our busy FM team at HMP Thameside, a Category B establishment for adult males, with safety and security at its core.

The key purpose of this role is to carry out routine HVAC and/or Mechanical Engineering work, preventative maintenance, and repairs. You will ensure that various pre-planned maintenance schedules are kept up to date and maintained as required. The role requires leadership, setting visible standards of personal performance and accountability, and functioning with a degree of independence.

Some of your key responsibilities include:

  • Fault finding and defect rectification on installed plant and equipment
  • Supporting other FM team members in plumbing and other trades
  • Escort contractors on-site as per procedures
  • Installing new plant and equipment
  • Investigating plant performance and producing reports and recommendations
  • Familiarity with operation and maintenance of installed systems
  • Adhering to Health & Safety guidelines
  • Participating in call-out rota and potential weekend work

Qualifications and Experience

You need HVAC and/or Mechanical Engineering qualifications (C&G, NVQ). Membership of a relevant professional body is desirable.

Must hold NVQ Level 3 or equivalent with at least 3 years post-qualification experience.

The successful candidate should enjoy teamwork, be proactive, flexible, and committed to customer satisfaction and continuous improvement. Participation in call-out and weekend work is required.
