Job summary

Pertemps is seeking a Trainee / Assistant Mechanical Building Services Engineer in Surrey. The role is office-based with site visits across London and the South East. You will gain hands-on experience across design, estimating, procurement and project delivery, under mentorship from senior engineers.

A clear career pathway leads toward full project management and beyond. Initial training will cover all mechanical disciplines, with opportunities for long-term progression.

Qualifications

• Mechanical Engineering degree (BEng/BSc/HND) or equivalent
• Ambitious, eager to learn and transition into project management
• Interest in building services, HVAC, plumbing, and BMS

About Us

We are recruiting for a well-established M&E building services company based in Surrey, delivering end-to-end design, contract management, installation, and commissioning for high-profile clients across London and the South East. Projects span HVAC, heating, plumbing, drainage, and BMS, with contract values ranging from £10k to £3m.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an ambitious candidate to learn every facet of building services from the ground up, with a clear career pathway toward full Project Management and beyond.

Initially office-based, you will work alongside senior engineers to gain hands‑on experience across design, estimating, procurement, and project delivery. As your confidence and technical knowledge grow, you will take ownership of your own projects from initial concept through to final commissioning and hand‑over.

About You

This role is ideal for either:

• A Mechanical Engineering graduate (BEng/BSC/HND) looking for a structured, hands‑on start to their career.
• An improver or experienced HVAC / Building Services technician or engineer looking to transition off the tools/site into full project management.

You should be commercially aware, eager to learn, and looking for a long‑term role with direct career progression.
