Job summary

Tech-People is seeking an experienced HVAC Engineer to join our Northampton site team. You will perform HVAC maintenance, servicing, and repairs while supporting the Mechanical & Electrical Engineer with general site tasks.

The role requires a pro-active, can-do attitude, flexibility across trades, and a commitment to safety. The ideal candidate brings City & Guilds 2079-11 F-Gas, Level 2/3 HVAC qualifications, NVQ HVAC, and strong diagnostic skills.

Qualifications

  • City & Guilds 2079-11 F-Gas & ODS Regulations qualification.
  • Level 2/3 HVAC diploma or NVQ equivalent.
  • 2/3 HVAC or refrigeration NVQ qualification.
  • Experience as HVAC Engineer in commercial/facilities sites.
  • Good knowledge of HVAC systems, maintenance and fault finding.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Strong health and safety commitment.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out HVAC maintenance, servicing and repair duties across the site.
  • Diagnose and resolve HVAC faults efficiently and professionally.
  • Support the Mechanical & Electrical Engineer with day-to-day site maintenance.
  • Assist with basic electrical maintenance tasks where required.
  • Carry out basic plumbing tasks and general building maintenance.
  • Assist with fabric maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and ensure high standards.
  • Follow health and safety procedures and site requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed.
  • Work effectively with the engineering and facilities team.
  • Be flexible to support colleagues across maintenance disciplines.

HVAC Engineer

Location: Northampton, NN9 6RJ

Working Hours: 08:00 – 17:00

Hours: 45 hours per week

Start Date: 1 October 2026

End Date: 3 January 2027

PAYE Rate: 23.60 per hour

Umbrella Rate: 30.73 per hour

Job Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced and reliable HVAC Engineer to join a site–based engineering team in Northampton. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out HVAC–related duties while supporting the Mechanical & Electrical Engineer with general maintenance tasks across the site. A positive, professional and flexible 'can–do' attitude is essential. The role will require someone who is comfortable working across a range of tasks and is willing to assist with basic electrical, plumbing and fabric maintenance when required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out HVAC maintenance, servicing and repair duties across the site.
  • Diagnose and resolve HVAC–related faults efficiently and professionally.
  • Support the Mechanical & Electrical Engineer with day–to–day site maintenance.
  • Assist with basic electrical maintenance tasks where required.

  • Follow all relevant health and safety procedures and site requirements.

  • Maintain a professional and positive approach at all times.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
  • City & Guilds 2079–11 – Category I F–Gas and ODS Regulations qualification.
  • City & Guilds Level 2 and/or Level 3 Diploma in an appropriate HVAC/refrigeration discipline.
  • Level 2 and/or Level 3 NVQ in an appropriate HVAC/refrigeration discipline.
  • Previous experience working as an HVAC Engineer in a commercial or facilities environment.
  • Good knowledge of HVAC systems, maintenance and fault finding.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
  • Good problem–solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
