Job summary

Nelson Recruitment is seeking an experienced HVAC Engineer for a mobile role covering Leeds. You will maintain a range of commercial HVAC plant, diagnose faults, and ensure energy efficient operation across a portfolio of sites.

The role requires F-Gas Cat 1, NVQ Level 3 in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning or equivalent, and a full UK driving licence. Company van, fuel card, and funded training are provided. DBS check may be required.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, HVAC or Mechanical Engineering Services.
• Current F-Gas Category 1 certification — essential.
• Proven experience maintaining commercial HVAC plant including AHUs, split/VRF systems and ventilation equipment.
• Competence in electrical fault-finding and safe isolation on HVAC equipment.
• Right to work in the UK and ability to obtain DBS check.

Responsibilities

• Perform planned preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment, including AHUs, MVHR/MEV units, fan coils and air conditioning systems.
• Diagnose and repair reactive faults on HVAC, refrigeration, electrical and control systems.
• Carry out F-Gas leak checking, recovery, charging and commissioning with proper records.
• Replace filters, belts, motors, dampers and other components; balance airflow as required.
• Use BMS and local controls to identify faults and improve plant performance and energy efficiency.
• Support minor installations, equipment replacement, and commissioning projects.
• Record work accurately via mobile job management system with readings and photos.
• Work safely in line with RAMS, permits, isolation and lock-out procedures.

Nelson Recruitment is recruiting an experienced HVAC Engineer on behalf of our established facilities management client. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing engineering team delivering planned and reactive maintenance across a portfolio of purpose-built student accommodation and higher education sites.

Key responsibilities

• Complete planned preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment, including AHUs, MVHR and MEV units, fan coil units, ventilation systems, split and VRF/VRV air conditioning and air source heat pumps.
• Diagnose and repair reactive faults on HVAC, refrigeration, electrical and control systems within agreed response times.
• Carry out F-Gas-compliant leak checking, recovery, charging and commissioning, maintaining accurate refrigerant records.
• Replace filters, belts, bearings, motors, dampers and other components, and complete airflow measurement and balancing where required.
• Use BMS and local controls to identify faults, adjust settings and improve plant performance and energy efficiency.
• Support minor installations, equipment replacement and commissioning projects.
• Record work accurately through the mobile job management system, including readings, photographs, defects and parts used.
• Work safely in line with RAMS, permits, safe isolation and lock-out/tag-out procedures.
• Liaise professionally with client teams, residents and contractors while minimising disruption.

What we're looking for

• NVQ Level 3, or equivalent, in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, HVAC or Mechanical Engineering Services.
• Current F-Gas Category 1 certification — this is essential.
• Proven experience maintaining commercial HVAC plant, including AHUs, split or VRF systems and ventilation equipment.
• Competence in electrical fault-finding and safe isolation on HVAC equipment.
• Full UK driving licence.
• CSCS, ECS, JIB or an equivalent skills card, or willingness to obtain one.
• Right to work in the UK and willingness to undergo a DBS check.
• A well-organised, customer-focused approach and confidence using mobile technology for job reporting.

Desirable experience

Experience with MVHR and MEV systems, air source heat pumps, BMS controls, ventilation hygiene requirements or manufacturer-specific equipment would be advantageous. Additional qualifications such as 18th Edition, IPAF or PASMA are also welcomed.
