Job summary

Advance Grid Solutions in Glasgow seeks an experienced Power System Design Engineer to support HV substation and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) EPC projects across the UK. Develop electrical designs and studies to ensure safe, reliable, and grid-compliant operation of complex HV networks and renewable energy systems.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical/Power Engineering required (BEng/MEng).
• 3+ years in power system design for HV substations, grid connections, or BESS projects.
• Strong knowledge of HV/LV systems, grid code compliance, and UK DNO/TO standards.
• Experience with power system modelling software (DIgSILENT, ETAP, PSCAD, IPSA).
• Familiarity with IEC/ENA/National Grid specs and multi-disciplinary EPC environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver power system design for HV substations, grid connections, and BESS projects (11–400 kV).
• Develop SLDs, equipment layouts, cable schedules, interconnection diagrams, and earthing designs.
• Conduct power system studies: load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, harmonics, dynamic stability.
• Support grid connection applications, compliance submissions, and modelling (DNO/TO/NGESO).
• Prepare technical specifications for electrical equipment and liaise with grid operators to ensure compliance.
• Provide design reviews, QA, and deliverables management (Procore or equivalents).
• Mentor junior engineers and drive design-process improvements.
