Job summary

Rubicon Consulting is seeking an Automation Engineer on a 6 month rolling contract based in Midlands. The role sits in a team delivering HVAC substations, offshore wind, battery storage and green hydrogen through Green Energy projects.

The candidate will hold National Grid Settings Authorisation and have design experience in transmission and distribution, with strong protection knowledge and English fluency.

Qualifications

• Power Electrical Engineering Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
• Design experience within the Electricity Transmission and Distribution industry.
• Solid understanding of protection device and scheme principle of operation.
• Fluent oral and written English.
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in AC substation engineering (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Prepare HV protection settings calculations for differential, distance, and busbar protections.
• Perform fault level calculations to IEC 60909 for symmetrical and unsymmetrical faults.
• Use DIgSILENT PowerFactory for fault level studies and protection reports.
• Conduct arc-flash analysis using Caneco BT for LVAC 400V systems.
• Prepare energisation and switching programs and sequence reports.
• Analyse requirements to define and optimise protection functionality.
• Advise project and tender teams on protection matters.
• Propose alternative protection solutions with guidance.
• Collaborate with internal teams to deliver results.
• Participate in engineering department improvement initiatives.
• Mentor junior engineers to develop competencies.
