Job summary

NRL in Teesside is seeking an experienced HR Manager to lead the HR function from their Teesside office. You will shape practical HR solutions for a growing engineering and project-delivery business, guiding employee relations, engagement, and policy development.

You'll manage a HR team, partner with site leaders on workforce planning, oversee recruitment and pay terms for site staff, ensure legal compliance, and report on HR metrics to the senior team.

Qualifications

  • Proven HR management experience within engineering, construction, or a similar sector.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK employment law.
  • Experience handling employee relations cases and disciplinary matters.
  • Experience managing and developing a team of HR professionals.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders at all levels and communicate assertively.
  • Track record of implementing practical HR policy for a growing business.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and develop the HR team with accountability for service delivery.
  • Handle employee relations issues professionally, including disciplinaries and grievances.
  • Partner with operational leaders on workforce planning across multiple projects.
  • Design and implement proportionate HR policies and procedures to support business needs.
  • Oversee recruitment and resourcing for office and project-based teams.
  • Manage pay, terms and conditions for site staff, including NAECI where relevant.
  • Drive employee engagement, culture, and retention initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation and support HSQE on people-related matters.
  • Report on HR metrics, workforce risk, and trends to the senior leadership team.

Location and Working Pattern

Office-based in Teesside with site engagement as needed.

Client Overview

Our client delivers engineering and construction services for major infrastructure projects across multiple sectors, including Offshore Wind, Power & Renewables, Oil & Gas, Nuclear, Defence, and Data Centres. They work in close partnership with their clients to provide proven solutions to some of the most complex engineering challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Track record of implementing practical HR policy suitable for a growing business.
Nice-to-have Skills
  • Familiarity with the NAECI (National Agreement for the Engineering Construction Industry).
  • CIPD qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting a mobile or site-based workforce.
