Job Title: Human Resources Manager

Location: Bristol

Salary: GBP47,508 - GBP55,954

Job Type: full-time, permanent

The Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) is a Bristol-based national charity that supports people and organisations across the UK to tackle the climate emergency and end the suffering caused by cold homes. We do this by sharing our knowledge, practical experience, and policy insights.

The Role

To further develop, deliver, and strengthen CSE's Human Resources function, ensuring the organisation complies with all relevant legislation and guidance while recruiting and retaining good quality staff. Instilling a collaborative culture of high performance where staff are encouraged and supported to perform at their best and we collectively achieve outstanding results.

Pay And Conditions
  • The role is full-time (37.5 hours per week).
  • The salary for the role will be GBP47,508 - GBP55,954 per year.
  • You will be entitled to 25 days paid holiday (plus statutory holidays).

Duties And Responsibilities

An applicant appointed to the role will be expected to:

  • Deliver all aspects of CSE's Human Resources function, from recruitment, staff welfare, wellbeing and associated support, staff records, training and professional development, oversight and advice on conflicts or disciplinary matters.
  • Work alongside the Director of Finance and Operations, the Chief Executive, and other directors to ensure the Staff Handbook remains updated, and lead on all amendments/updates.
  • Maintain the organisation's personnel records in accordance with data protection standards using the Cezanne HR system.
  • Support the Employee Voice (EV) group and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) group.
  • Provide oversight and guidance on staff recruitment, onboarding, induction, development, and training, supporting relevant staff.
  • Issue employment contracts, offer letters, job descriptions, pay review letters for internal changes.
  • Ensure payroll documents are completed and sent to the payroll bureau; support payroll records and pension contributions.
  • Maintain knowledge of employment, equity, diversity, and Health and Safety laws, with support from professional advisors.
  • Prepare reports for the Senior Leadership Team and Trustees on HR matters.
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR processes and practices.

About You
  • CIPD Level 5 qualification or equivalent HR qualification.
  • At least 5 years of post-qualification work experience, including 2 years in an advisory role.
  • Experience developing and implementing HR policies and managing change processes.
  • Experience supporting both organisational and individual employee issues.
  • Knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practices.
  • Experience managing a live HR system.
  • Support in developing and supporting line managers.
