Job summary

Compass Group UK is hiring a Sous Chef for the Hub Kitchen at Uppingham School, Rutland. The role supports the Head Chef in day-to-day operations to deliver high-quality, nutritious meals to pupils, staff and visitors.

You will lead the kitchen team, assist with menu planning, maintain food safety standards, and deliver an exceptional dining experience in a busy educational environment. The Hub Kitchen operates across breakfast, lunch and special events.

Qualifications

• Professional Cookery qualification (NVQ Level 2/3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
• Food Safety Level 3 Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
• Previous experience as Sous Chef, Senior Chef de Partie, or equivalent role.
• Experience working in a high-volume catering operation.
• Strong knowledge of food safety, allergen management, and kitchen best practices.

Responsibilities

• Support the Head Chef in the preparation and delivery of breakfast, lunch, supper.
• Ensure all food is prepared, cooked, and presented to a consistently high standard.
• Assist with menu planning, recipe development, and seasonal dishes.
• Prepare a wide variety of fresh meals, including vegetarian, vegan, allergen-aware, and special dietary options.
• Contribute to theme days, special events, formal dinners, and school functions.
• Ensure portion control and food quality standards are maintained.
