Job summary

UK Atomic Energy Authority seeks a Magnets Technology Development Lead to spearhead STEP's HTS magnet development programme, delivering fast-paced test campaigns, plans, and cross-disciplinary coordination. The role is based at West Burton or Culham in a Full-time capacity, reporting to UKFE - Engineering Delivery.

The candidate should hold an engineering degree (chartered preferred) with a proven track record in HTS magnet tech, multi-physics, and leadership in diverse teams.

Qualifications

  • Essential: Relevant engineering degree or equivalent.
  • Essential: Chartered status with a suitable professional institution.
  • Essential: Demonstrable track record in developing technology and evidence of delivering innovative solutions to industry.
  • Essential: Good understanding of HTS magnet design and HTS multi-physics, especially quench experiments, and proficiency with electrical and cryogenic lab equipment.
  • Essential: Commercial awareness, project and budget management experience.
  • Essential: Leading teams with excellent interpersonal skills in diverse, multidisciplinary environments.
  • Essential: Ability to communicate effectively in technical and non-technical terms.
  • Desirable: Demonstrable track record in developing HTS magnet technology.
  • Desirable: Hands-on HTS materials and fabrication experience HTS magnets.
