Job summary

MacStaff is seeking an HSQE Advisor to lead safety, quality and environmental performance across UK rail projects. You will operate with hybrid/home-based flexibility across the Southern region, with regular site visits and occasional travel to the Derbyshire HQ.

The role requires five years in UK rail, NEBOSH certificate or equivalent, and a degree in Health & Safety or related discipline. Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel are essential.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Promote a positive safety culture across multiple rail infrastructure projects
  • Support HSQE management systems implementation and continual improvement
  • Conduct site inspections, audits and compliance reviews
  • Support incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Review risk assessments, RAMS and safe systems of work
  • Promote compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards
  • Deliver toolbox talks, training and HSQE awareness sessions
  • Support environmental compliance, sustainability initiatives and continuous improvement
  • Build strong relationships with clients, contractors and project teams
  • Help drive a proactive culture focused on safety, quality and operational excellence

You will do

As HSQE Advisor, you will play a key role in promoting a positive safety culture whilst supporting operational excellence across multiple rail infrastructure projects. Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the implementation and continual improvement of integrated HSQE management systems
  • Advising project teams on Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental best practice
  • Conducting site inspections, audits and compliance reviews
  • Supporting incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Reviewing risk assessments, RAMS and safe systems of work
  • Promoting compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards

You will have

To be successful as HSQE Advisor, you will ideally bring:

  • NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (or equivalent)
  • Degree or equivalent in Health & Safety, Environmental, Quality or related discipline
  • At least five years’ experience within the UK rail sector
  • Previous experience as an HSQE Advisor, SHEQ Advisor, HSEQ Advisor, QHSE Advisor or Health & Safety Advisor
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems
  • Experience conducting audits, inspections and incident investigations
  • Good understanding of UK Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality legislation
  • Experience working on rail infrastructure or Network Rail projects
  • Excellent communication, coaching and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel throughout the Southern region

Desirable:

  • TechIOSH, ISEP, CQI or similar professional membership
  • PTS certification
  • Internal or Lead Auditor qualification
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations and rail safety standards
