Job summary

NMS Recruit Ltd t/a Russell Taylor Group is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to lead our H&S performance on highways and roadworks projects. Role involves 50% site travel, influencing on-site teams and maintaining ISO standards.

The successful candidate will oversee QHSE practices, drive risk management and ensure legal compliance across construction activities, with strong training delivery and stakeholder engagement skills.

Qualifications

• 10+ years' Health & Safety experience in highways, roadworks, civil engineering or construction.
• Significant site-based Health & Safety management experience, highways/roadworks preferred.
• Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and ISO 45001:2018.
• NEBOSH General Certificate or higher with auditing and incident investigation training.
• Proven ability to lead teams and deliver training to operational staff.

Responsibilities

• Lead and promote a positive Health & Safety culture across the business.
• Develop, implement and continually improve Health & Safety policies, procedures and safe systems of work.
• Provide practical Health & Safety advice and support to operational and site teams.
• Lead site inspections, audits, risk assessments, incident investigations and corrective actions.
• Monitor legal, regulatory, client and certification compliance and communicate relevant changes.
• Manage Health & Safety risks in highways/roadworks including traffic management and traffic proximity.
• Support and influence managers, site teams, subcontractors and suppliers to maintain high safety standards.
• Deliver effective Health & Safety training, briefings and toolbox talks.
• Lead the QHSE function and support continual improvement across Quality and Environmental systems.
• Maintain and improve the QMS, including non-conformance, corrective actions, internal auditing and supplier management.
• Liaise with clients, principal contractors and authorities on QHSE matters.
