Job summary

Mitchell Maguire is recruiting an HSE Manager – Structural Steelwork to lead health, safety and environmental programs across heavy and light steelwork projects. You will develop and maintain systems in line with legislation, ensure compliance, and drive continuous improvement on-site and across projects.

The role requires experience in structural steelwork sectors, strong communication skills, and the ability to hit the ground running.

Qualifications

• Experience in Health and Safety or SHEQ management roles.
• Experience within structural steelwork sectors.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• IT literate.

Responsibilities

• Lead and implement HSE programs for heavy and light steelwork projects.
• Develop and maintain HSE management systems to ensure audit readiness.
• Oversee risk assessments and drive safe working practices across projects.
• Plan and oversee internal and external audits, address non-conformances with corrective actions.
• Support environmental and sustainability initiatives, including waste reduction and energy efficiency.
• Monitor performance metrics and report outcomes to senior management.
• Oversee projects typically up to £10m in value.

The role of the HSE Manager – Structural Steelwork will involve:

• HSE Manager position responsible for implementing the health, safety and environmental programs for heavy & light steelwork projects
• Lead, develop and maintain HSE management systems in line with relevant legislation, industry standards and company procedures, ensuring ongoing compliance and audit readiness
• Ensure products consistently meet required specifications, regulatory standards, and customer expectations
• Drive health and safety performance through effective risk management, incident investigation, and implementation of safe working practices
• Plan and oversee internal and external audits, ensuring non-conformances are addressed with robust corrective actions
• Support environmental and sustainability, including waste reduction, energy efficiency and continual improvement
• Monitor performance metrics, identify improvement opportunities and report outcomes to senior management
• Oversee projects typically up to £10m in value

The ideal applicant will be a HSE Manager – Structural Steelwork with:

• Must have experience in Health and Safety or have a background from an equivalent position (HSE Manager, SHEQ Manager Health & Safety Manager Etc.)
• Must have experience within structural steelwork or related sectors (industrial doors, temporary buildings, SFS, architectural metal, steelwork, mezzanine flooring, modular buildings)

• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
• Must be able to hit the ground running
• IT literate
