Job summary

William Cook Cast Products in Sheffield is seeking a Health, Safety and Environment Manager to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and internal policies. You will plan, implement, monitor and review protective measures and foster a safe, efficient working environment.

You will lead audits, manage ISO certifications, incident investigations, training, and the COSHH/HAVS programs, coordinating with the Plant Engineer and Purchasing to maintain safety standards and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of HSE policies, procedures and management systems.
  • Working knowledge of auditing processes and protocols.
  • Proficient in computer based systems and software.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety & Environmental Legislation and Regulations.
  • Knowledge of corporate incident reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge of industry associations, affiliations and other resources.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and work practices.
  • Post secondary certification; NEBOSH certificate or diploma.

Responsibilities

  • Promote good health, safety and environmental practices.
  • Provide independent, professional, advice and technical information to managers to enable statutory obligations; keep staff up to date with HS&E legislation.
  • Propose, implement and monitor measures to comply with HS&E Legislation and ACOPS including regular review of working practices.
  • Work with the group health and safety committee to prepare health, safety and environmental strategies and develop and implement internal policy.
  • Maintain ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015.
  • Carry out workplace safety environmental tours/site audits inspections and assessments and ensure remedial action is taken.
  • Ensure that statutory requirements are upheld e.g.: COSHH, RIDDOR, DSE, Risk Assessments, Noise, Dust & Fume, VWF.
  • Ensure all incidents, accidents and near misses are thoroughly investigated, prepare report of findings with recommendations.
  • Manage and maintain the COSHH database ensuring COSHH assessments are available on all hazardous materials and that effective Risk Assessments are in place.
  • Manage and maintain the HAVS register, ensuring Vibration assessments are in place for all equipment.
  • Carry out and document Risk Assessments and work to eliminate/reduce risk to an acceptable level.
  • Work with the Plant Engineer to ensure the safe installation of equipment and conduct PUWER assessments along with Risk Assessments and SSoW.
  • Create SSoW for each appropriate task based on the Risk Assessment and ensure operators are trained and certified.
  • Maintain a register of first aiders, ensuring adequate provision of first aid.
  • Manage the list of approved contractors ensuring all contractors have the necessary certification prior to working on site.
  • Keep up to date with new legislation and maintaining knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive legislation and developments affecting foundry industry.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous environmental improvement and implement programmes to deliver these.
  • Work with Purchasing to manage and control waste management and recycling procedures.
  • Ensure high level of compliance with environmental legislation and eliminate risk of non-compliance.
  • Work with Purchasing to manage and organise the safe disposal of hazardous substances, e.g. foundry waste, asbestos.
  • Manage the Plant, Health, Safety & Environmental Committee and the Champions and Deputies to promote safety culture.
  • Manage the Security function for the site and ensure guards are trained.
  • Undertake any other duties within post holder’s capability.
