Altrad UK, Ireland & Nordics is seeking an experienced HSE Advisor to support safe and compliant MEH activities on Hinkley Point C. The role is predominantly site-based (90% site / 10% office) within a regulated nuclear environment, providing expert COSHH advice and monitoring practices.

You will work with MEH and Principal Contractor, conduct inspections, participate in incident investigations and support MEH HSESS functions while upholding the HPC Way and MEH procedures.

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH General Certificate or NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent.
  • 5+ years' construction HSE experience.
  • Working knowledge of UK Health and Safety regulations.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • IT literate with Microsoft packages.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure HPC health and safety standards are met.
  • Provide competent HSE advice across a multi-functional / multi-discipline project.
  • Carry out site inspections and report trends.

Job description

We are seeking a competent and experienced HSE Advisor to support the safe and compliant delivery of MEH activities on Hinkley Point C.

This role will be predominantly site-based (90% site / 10% office) and will form part of the integrated site H&S team. The role will provide competent HSE advice across a multi-functional and multi-discipline project within a highly regulated and safety-critical nuclear environment. Working as part of an integrated alliance delivery team, you will monitor the working practices of MEH employees and contractors, carry out site inspections, support incident management and provide specialist advice, particularly in relation to COSHH. You will also work closely with other Tier 1 contractors and the Principal Contractor to promote the HPC Way and maintain high HSE standards.

Key Deliverables / Accountabilities
  • Ensure the Health and Safety standards of the HPC project are consistently met
  • Champion the HPC Way, including its associated pillars
  • Play an active role within the integrated site H&S team
  • Provide competent HSE advice across a multi-functional / multi-discipline project
  • Carry out all duties with full regard to MEH policies and procedures
  • Build effective working relationships with other Tier 1 contractors and the Principal Contractor
  • Monitor the working practices of MEH employees and contractors regarding health, safety, environment and welfare
  • Carry out HSE inspections across site, including activities involving work at height and confined spaces, and report any trends to the relevant discipline manager
  • Conduct one inspection and observation per shift of MEH site activities and subcontractor operations and record findings within Insight
  • Intervene when unsafe practices are observed and offer practical solutions to address identified observations
  • Provide competent specialist advice on identified topics, specifically COSHH
  • Support accident and incident management and investigation activities
  • Ensure MEH duty of care responsibilities are implemented following any incident
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of MEH site procedures and monitor compliance within the field
  • Support all MEH site HSESS functions as required
  • Participate in training and support the development of H&S subject matter expertise
  • Undertake additional tasks that are reasonably commensurate with the level of the post
Key Requirements / Qualifications
  • NEBOSH General Certificate, NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent
  • Strong construction background with a minimum of 5 years’ experience
  • Working knowledge of UK Health and Safety regulations
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, with the ability to explain HSE procedures and expectations to a range of people
  • IT literate and familiar with Microsoft packages
  • Investigative mind and keen eye for detail
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and across a complex construction environment
  • Suitable site experience in a similar HSE role, preferably within the nuclear industry
  • Knowledge of SG4.15, TG20.13 and Work at Height Regulations
  • Knowledge of Blasting and Coatings standards (ICATS)
  • Electrical background or experience working with electrical teams
  • Working knowledge of Lifting and Rigging standards and LOLER
  • Knowledge and experience of COSHH and DSEAR
  • IOSH membership or similar
  • Auditing qualification or demonstrable knowledge and experience within auditing
  • Basic understanding of Nuclear site Licence Conditions
  • Willingness to undertake Level 3 Award in Education and Training / PTLLS or equivalent if required
  • Willingness to complete trade-specific training to support the safe delivery of MEH works
