Job summary

Altrad is seeking an experienced HSE Advisor for the Hinkley Point C project. The role is largely site-based with a 42-hour week over 4 days, occasional overtime, and travel/lodge support where applicable. Immediate start available. Pay rate is competitive.

You will drive health and safety standards, provide specialist COSHH guidance, and work within MEH policies. Strong communication and auditing skills are essential to support incident investigations and training across the site.

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH General Certificate or NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
  • Minimum 5 years' construction/site health and safety experience.
  • Knowledge of SG4:15, TG20:13 and Work at Height Regulations.
  • Knowledge of Blasting and Coatings standards (ICATS).
  • COSHH and DSEAR knowledge recommended.
  • IOSH membership or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure HPC health and safety standards are consistently met.
  • Provide competent site HSE advice to multiple disciplines.
  • Lead and participate in HSE inspections across the site.
  • Intervene to correct unsafe practices and implement solutions.

Job description

HSE Advisor - Hinkley Point C

Altrad are currently looking for an experienced HSE Advisor to join the team at Hinkley Point C (HPC).

This role will involve working 42 hours per week over 4 days, with occasional overtime available, with an immediate start available. The position includes lodge and travel paid where applicable. Pay rate: Competitive.

Key Deliverables
  • Ensure the Health and Safety standards of the HPC project are consistently met.
  • Champion the HPC Way including its pillars.
  • Play a key role in the site integrated H&S team.
  • Give competent advice across a multi-functional / discipline project.
  • Carry out all duties with full regard to all MEH policies and procedures.
  • Build relationships with other Tier 1 contractors and the Principal Contractor.
  • Monitor the working practices of MEH employees and contractors regarding health, safety, environment and welfare.
  • Carry out HSE inspections across the site, including work at height, confined spaces and other high-risk activities. Report any trends to the relevant discipline manager as soon as identified.
  • Conduct inspections and observations of MEH site activities and subcontractor operations, recording findings within Insight.
  • Intervene when unsafe practices are observed and offer practical solutions.
  • Participate in training and develop as a Health & Safety subject matter expert.
  • Support accident and incident management and investigations.
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of MEH site procedures and monitor compliance within the field.
  • Support all MEH site HSESS functions as required.
  • Provide competent specialist advice on identified topics, specifically COSHH.
  • Ensure MEH duty of care responsibilities are implemented following any incident.
  • Undertake additional tasks as are reasonably commensurate with the level of the post.
  • The role is approximately 90% site-based and 10% office-based.
Key Requirements / Qualifications
  • NEBOSH General Certificate, NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent.
  • Strong construction background with a minimum of 5 years' experience.
  • Knowledge of SG4:15, TG20:13 and Work at Height Regulations.
  • Knowledge of Blasting and Coatings standards (ICATS).
  • Electrical background or experience working with electrical teams.
  • Working knowledge of Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER).
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills with the ability to explain HSE procedures and expectations to a range of people.
  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety regulations.
  • IT literate with experience using Microsoft Office packages.
  • Ideally have a background in COSHH and DSEAR.
  • IOSH membership or similar professional affiliation.
  • Suitable site experience in a similar role, preferably within the nuclear industry.
  • Willingness to undertake the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (PTLLS) or equivalent if required.
  • Basic understanding of Nuclear Site Licence Conditions.
  • An investigative mindset with excellent attention to detail.
  • Willingness to complete trade-specific training to support the safe delivery of MEH works.
  • Auditing qualification or demonstrable auditing experience.
  • BPSS Security Clearance.
