Balfour Beatty plc is seeking a dynamic Health & Safety Advisor for the NZT project at the Redcar site in Cleveland. The role will primarily operate night shifts supporting critical works while ensuring health and safety standards across all operations.

You will advise on H&S legislation, perform risk assessments, investigations and training coordination, while promoting a proactive safety culture on a major decarbonisation project. NEBOSH/IOSH qualifications are expected.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH Certificate or Diploma required
• Experience preparing technical inspection and audit reports
• Proven ability to lead incident investigations and root-cause analysis
• Strong command of MS Office and data recording systems

Responsibilities

• Ensure operations comply with Site and Project HS&W requirements
• Provide competent advice on H&S legislation and project compliance
• Assist with risk assessments and safe systems of work
• Monitor and report H&S performance and workplace conditions
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses and share lessons learned
• Coordinate H&S inductions and training with the Project Training Coordinator
• Liaise with HS&W colleagues and participate in project reviews of the H&S Management System
• Support continual improvement and coaching of project personnel on safety practices

As a result, alongside several consortium partners; Balfour Beatty have been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster. Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic H&S Advisor to contribute to ourNet Zero Teesside(NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland. Role Purpose: To advise and support the NZT project team on specific HS&W duties, provide guidance, and monitoring and reporting on compliance with these responsibilities. Due to the nature of the construction programme, this position will primarily operate on night shifts, supporting key project works outside of standard daytime hours. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring health and safety standards are maintained across all night-time operations.

What you'll be doing

• Ensuring with Project Site Management and Supervision, that all operations and activities are effectively planned and undertaken in compliance with Site and Project HS&W requirements.
• To provide the Project Team with competent advice on current H&S legislation, company compliance and project compliance requirements aligned to the Management system.
• Assist project team in undertaking project related risk assessments and preparation of safe systems of work in line with project specifics procedures and arrangements.
• To contribute towards building a positive safety culture by embedding the core principles, ie. Golden Rules
• To support the effective active monitoring, recording and reporting of our own and subcontractor H&S performance and workplace conditions.
• To actively challenge and report any unsafe behaviours and unsafe conditions and record these via the observation programme
• To ensure near miss and improvement observation reporting is carried out and maintained.
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near miss events in accordance with project standards to identify and share lessons learned.
• To facilitate effective H&S inductions and relevant HSE training and liaise with the Project Training Coordinator.
• To ensure all enquiries from the Project Team and HS&W function are dealt with accurately and promptly.
• Liaise with HS&W colleagues within the project (inc. Partners / Client) and attend regular co-ordination meetings.
• Participate in the regular reviews and updates of the Project H&S Management System.
• To develop strong links with our customer in promoting best practice and continual improvement.
• Maintain a visual presence on site and assist with coaching and mentoring of project personnel to ensure continuous improvements are made.

Who we're looking for

• Ability to work a rotating shift pattern including both day and night shifts.
• NEBOSH Certificate / Diploma, C&G Etc
• Member of the Institution of Occupational Health, Safety and Wellbeing and Health (TechIOSH /GradIOSH)
• Ability to prepare technical inspection, audit reports and other documentation for submission to internal and external stakeholders.
• Previous experience in conducting and producing incident investigations to a high standard determining root cause and appropriate and proportionate corrective actions in the interest of Learning From Experience (LFE)
• Confident with Microsoft Office 365 suite and online databases and general IT
• Experience of working in Multi Discipline engineering construction environments
