Job summary

Galliford Try is recruiting an HS&E Advisor in Inverness-shire to support the Environment Division’s health, safety and environmental strategy across projects. You’ll work with the Head of HS&E to ensure top safety and environmental performance, guiding operational teams through planning, design and construction lifecycles.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a Health, Safety & Environmental advisory role within construction or regulated industries.
  • Strong knowledge of HS&E legislation, management systems and risk management.
  • Experience supporting projects through design and construction lifecycles.
  • Site inspections, audits and incident investigations experience.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Analytical and proactive approach to continuous improvement.
  • Experience delivering HS&E training or awareness sessions.
  • Competent IT skills with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel UK-wide.

Our Environment Division

Our Environment Business provides 'source to sea' asset delivery capability across the UK and Scotland, delivering both framework and standalone projects for the UK's major water companies. Purpose of the Role

As an HS&E Advisor, you'll play a key role in supporting the delivery of Galliford Try's Health, Safety and Environmental strategy across our Environment Division.

Working closely with the Head of HS&E, you'll help ensure our projects consistently achieve the highest standards of health, safety and environmental performance. You'll work alongside operational teams throughout the project lifecycle, providing practical guidance, driving continuous improvement and helping embed a positive, proactive HS&E culture across the business.

This is a varied role that combines site-based support with performance monitoring, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement, giving you the opportunity to make a genuine impact on how we deliver projects safely and responsibly.

Key Accountabilities
  • Champion a positive, collaborative Health, Safety and Environmental culture, promoting safe behaviours and supporting Galliford Try's behavioural safety programme.
  • Support the implementation and continual improvement of the Environment Division's HS&E strategy and management systems, ensuring compliance with company standards, client requirements and ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
  • Provide practical HS&E advice and guidance to operational teams throughout planning, design and construction, ensuring risks are identified and effectively managed.
  • Review high-risk method statements, risk assessments and other project documentation to help ensure safe systems of work are implemented.
  • Carry out regular site inspections, workplace reviews and HS&E audits, identifying opportunities for improvement and supporting teams to implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor HS&E performance through KPI reporting and trend analysis, using data to identify opportunities for continual improvement.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses and non-conformities, identifying root causes and supporting the implementation of effective corrective actions.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, supply chain partners, regulators and internal stakeholders, acting as a trusted advisor on HS&E matters.
  • Support the onboarding and ongoing management of supply chain partners, ensuring compliance with Galliford Try's HS&E standards.
  • Deliver engaging training sessions, toolbox talks and awareness programmes to develop capability and promote best practice across the business.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of HS&E systems, reporting and digital initiatives that improve performance and compliance.
About You

You'll be passionate about creating safer working environments and confident engaging with people at every level of the business. You'll enjoy working collaboratively, influencing positive behaviours and using data and insight to drive continual improvement.

Essential
  • Experience in a Health, Safety & Environmental advisory role within construction, infrastructure, utilities or another regulated industry.
  • Strong understanding of HS&E legislation, management systems, risk management and compliance.
  • Experience supporting projects through the design and construction lifecycle.
  • Experience carrying out site inspections, audits and incident investigations.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and build strong working relationships.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
  • Experience delivering HS&E training, coaching or awareness sessions.
  • Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across projects throughout the UK.
Desirable
  • Experience within the water sector or another regulated infrastructure environment.
  • Knowledge of Power BI, PowerApps, Microsoft Forms or other digital reporting platforms.
  • Experience using HS&E management systems such as ActivSHEQ, Sphera Cloud or similar.
  • Experience using data analytics and performance reporting to drive business improvement.
