Job summary

Brook Street seeks an organised HR & Payroll Administrator to join a maternity cover on a 15-month fixed-term contract based in Ross-shire, Highlands. The role starts fully site-based with potential for hybrid working after initial training, supported by a structured 3-month handover and training period.

You will develop HR and payroll administration skills across the employee lifecycle in a busy, practical environment.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years' experience in HR Administration and/or Payroll Administration.
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excel proficiency for data handling and reporting.
  • Experience using HRIS and payroll systems to maintain records and process changes.
  • Confident communicator with ability to build relationships across the business.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of employment processes and HR/payroll administration with discretion.
  • Desirable CIPD qualification or studying toward CIPD.
  • Desirable payroll process exposure and busy HR department experience.
  • Desirable knowledge of HR best practice and employment legislation.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and issue employment contracts and associated documentation.
  • Coordinate and schedule interviews, ensuring smooth candidate and manager experience.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and keep HR systems up to date.
  • Support managers with day-to-day HR queries and admin requests.
  • Assist with onboarding and employee lifecycle activities.
  • Provide general HR department administration and document control.
  • Support project work where required.
  • Check and process payroll-related documentation for accurate runs.
  • Record and administer sickness absence and holiday requests.
  • Administer changes to pay rates, allowances and temporary promotions.
  • Liaise with managers and payroll colleagues to ensure payroll accuracy and timely processing.

HR & Payroll Administrator - Ross-shire

You'll work in a busy, practical environment with the opportunity to develop your HR and payroll administration skills across the employee lifecycle.

Job Overview


We are seeking an organised and proactive HR & Payroll Administrator to join on a 15-month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave. The position is based in Ross-shire, north of Inverness, and will initially be fully site based, with the potential for hybrid working after successful completion of the initial training period.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and issue employment contracts and associated documentation.
  • Coordinate and schedule interviews, ensuring a smooth candidate and manager experience.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and keep HR systems up to date.
  • Support managers with day-to-day HR queries and administrative requests.

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • At least 3 years' experience in an HR Administration and/or Payroll Administration role.

  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong focus on accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (including Excel for data handling and reporting).
  • Experience using HRIS and/or payroll systems to maintain records and process changes.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to build effective working relationships across the business.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of employment processes and the ability to apply HR and payroll administration with discretion.
  • Desirable: CIPD qualification or currently studying towards CIPD.
  • Desirable: experience supporting payroll processes and working within a busy HR department.
  • Desirable: knowledge of HR best practice and employment legislation.
