We are recruiting for an HR Onboarding Officer to join our Onboarding Team, based in our Norwich office. By joining us, you'll have the opportunity to lead a valued service in a department at the heart of government and be part of a collaborative, dedicated HR team.

About the Team

The Onboarding Team is a friendly, supportive and hard-working team based in our Norwich office. They care deeply about what they do and take pride in delivering a high-quality service to customers. The team works closely with a range of HR operational teams, including recruitment, employee lifecycle, security vetting, IT and Oracle systems.

The team sits within the wider Resourcing and Reward branch in HM Treasury's People and Capability function. This function supports the department to attract, develop and retain the people it needs to deliver the government's priorities.

The branch is responsible for end-to-end recruitment and onboarding, alongside key corporate priorities such as redeployment, early careers programmes and the annual pay and reward cycle. Its work spans everything from large-scale recruitment campaigns and outreach to pay policy, pay gap reporting and employee reward frameworks.

About the Job

The Onboarding Team supports new employees to join HM Treasury and existing staff moving into new roles or returning to the department. We use an online onboarding system to guide employees and managers through the process from job offer to employment start date.

Key responsibilities of this job include:

  • Providing excellent customer service to new starters, hiring managers and colleagues, keeping them informed by communicating clearly throughout the onboarding process
  • Arranging security vetting and clearances through government security vetting providers
  • Updating HR and payroll systems with accurate employee information
  • Ensuring employees have access to the systems, pay and resources they need to start work successfully and on time
  • Helping to continuously improve onboarding services, including finding ways to use technology to improve efficiency
  • Building strong working relationships with related teams such as Security and Recruitment

We operate flexibly across the team and branch as new priorities emerge, so responsibilities may change over time.

Onboarding is part of a wider People and Capability Team which provides services in Recruitment, HR Policy, Employee Lifecycle, Workforce Planning, Case Work, HR Business Partnering, Pay and Reward, Learning and Development, Pensions and People Strategy. This is a fantastic opportunity if you are looking to develop a career within HR and will provide a broad range of experience of working in Government.

About You

You will have experience delivering a high-quality, customer-focused service within a fast-paced operational environment, managing competing priorities and high-volume workloads to meet demanding deadlines and service standards. You will be confident carrying out administrative processes accurately and efficiently, with strong organisational and communication skills that enable you to provide excellent support to customers and colleagues.

Some of the Benefits our people love!
  • 25 days annual leave (rising to 30 after 5 years), plus 8 public holidays and the King's birthday (unless you have a legacy arrangement as an existing Civil Servant). Additionally, we operate flexitime systems, allowing employees to take up to an additional 2 days off each month
  • Flexible working patterns (part-time, job-share, condensed hours)
  • Generous parental and adoption leave packages
  • Access to a generous Defined Benefit pension scheme with employer contributions of 28%
  • Access to a cycle-to-work salary sacrifice scheme and season ticket advances
  • A range of active staff networks, based around interests (e.g. analysts, music society, sports and social club) and diversity
