Here at GXO, we' re looking for an experienced and people-focused HR Manager to lead the HR agenda across our Sainsbury's Transport operation in Stoke-on-Trent and our Sainsburys Argos site in Barton.
Reporting to the HR Business Partner, you'll be a trusted partner to our 2 x Sainsburys sites, providing expert guidance across employee relations, industrial relations, engagement and organisational change. Managing one direct report, you'll play a key role in driving a positive workplace culture, supporting operational success, and ensuring our people are set up to thrive.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a HR professional with union engagement experience, including pay negotiations, who enjoys balancing strategic influence with hands-on operational support!

This is 37.5 hours contracted per week, permanent position. Working core hours of Monday to Friday between 08:00 to 17:00 (flexibility required for business needs). Regular travel between both sites will be required.

Pay, benefits and more:

We're looking to offer a salary of up to£50,000 per annum, and 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays). Your benefits package includes a company sponsored pension scheme, life assurance and access to our benefits platform, including retail discounts!

What you'll do on a typical day:
  • Lead the delivery of a high-quality HR service across both sites, providing both strategic and operational people support to drive business performance
  • Coach and support managers on employee relations matters, including investigations, disciplinaries, appeals, absence management and employment legislation compliance
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships, partnering with operational leaders, customers and Trade Union representatives to deliver positive people outcomes
  • Drive engagement, wellbeing and inclusion initiatives, leading recruitment, onboarding, talent development and annual engagement survey action plans
  • Lead people change and continuous improvement, managing complex ER cases, TUPE transfers, HR reporting/KPIs and a direct report to ensure an exceptional HR function
What you need to succeed at GXO:
  • CIPD Level 5 qualified (or equivalent experience) with strong, up-to-date employment law knowledge and a proven ability to manage complex employee relations cases
  • An experienced HR leader with a track record of supporting and influencing stakeholders across multiple sites and operational environments
  • Data-driven and commercially minded, confident using people metrics and insights to improve key measures such as absence, attrition and engagement
  • A skilled relationship builder, able to establish credibility and trusted partnerships with managers, colleagues, customers and trade union representatives
  • Passionate about creating great workplaces, with proven success delivering employee engagement, wellbeing, diversity and inclusion initiatives
