Job description

HR Advisor - Consultancy

Location: Remote / Oxford area

Salary: Competitive DOE

Monday - Friday

Full time, Permanent

We\'re looking for an experienced and confident HR Advisor to join a growing HR consultancy and support a varied portfolio of UK-based clients. This is a broad, hands-on role where no two days are likely to look the same, you\'ll be providing practical HR guidance across a wide range of employee and workplace matters, helping clients navigate situations with confidence while ensuring they remain legally compliant and commercially sensible.

You\'ll work closely with clients, becoming someone they can rely on for clear, considered advice. The role will suit someone who enjoys getting to know businesses, understanding their culture and challenges, and providing advice that works in the real world — rather than simply quoting legislation or giving textbook answers.

You\'ll also have the opportunity to get involved in wider HR projects, including policies, contracts, employee lifecycle processes and organisational change.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Providing clear, practical HR advice by telephone, email and video call.
  • Advising managers and business owners on employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance, capability and performance cases.
  • Supporting clients with sickness absence, long-term absence, return-to-work processes and other attendance issues.
  • Advising on family leave, flexible working, holidays and other employee benefits and entitlements.
  • Supporting redundancy exercises and providing initial advice around TUPE and business transfers.
  • Advising on workplace issues including discrimination, bullying, harassment and employee conduct.
  • Reviewing and preparing employment contracts, letters, policies, handbooks and other HR documentation.
  • Supporting recruitment and selection processes, including job descriptions, interview processes and appropriate assessment methods.
  • Advising on onboarding, induction and probationary periods.
  • Helping clients improve their wider HR processes and employee experience.
  • Working on specific HR projects where required.
  • Keeping client records and case information accurate and up to date.
  • Working within established systems and processes while contributing ideas for improvements.
  • Building strong client relationships and spotting opportunities where additional HR expertise or support could benefit the business.
  • Sharing knowledge and experience with colleagues across the wider consultancy team.
About You

This role is really about how you approach HR, as much as the experience you bring.

You\'ll be someone who enjoys being the person others turn to when they have a difficult people issue to solve. You\'ll be comfortable dealing with sensitive and sometimes challenging situations, and able to provide calm, balanced advice even when the answer isn\'t straightforward.

You\'ll have a strong grounding in UK employment law and generalist HR, but you\'ll not be someone who sees HR purely through a legal or policy lens. You\'ll understand that businesses need advice that is legally robust, proportionate and commercially realistic.

You\'ll take the time to understand the situation before jumping to a solution. You\'ll be able to explain potentially complicated HR or employment law issues in straightforward language, giving clients the confidence to make informed decisions.

You\'ll also enjoy working with people. Building trust will be important in this role, and you\'ll naturally take the time to understand your clients, their businesses and the people within them.

Your experience:
  • Proven experience in a generalist HR advisory role
  • Experience working across a varied client group, consultancy environment or multi-site organisation is essential.
  • Strong practical experience across employee relations.
  • Good knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
  • Experience advising managers, business owners or senior stakeholders.
  • Experience creating and reviewing HR documentation and policies.
  • Confidence using Microsoft 365 and familiarity with HR or CRM systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organisation, prioritisation and time-management skills.
What's on Offer:
  • Commission opportunity.
  • Flexible remote working around the Oxford area.
  • A varied role with exposure to a broad range of businesses and HR challenges.
  • A collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • Opportunities to develop your HR expertise and progress your career.
  • The chance to work in a role where your advice has a genuine impact on clients and their people
