Job summary

Calderdale Council is seeking an experienced HR Advisor to join the HR Advisory Team in Halifax. This permanent, full-time position offers CIPD-qualified HR professionals the chance to support schools and external customers with high-quality HR guidance.

You will advise managers on complex employee relations, support change projects, develop policies and deliver training. Strong communication and data skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • CIPD Level 5 qualification (or equivalent) or significant HR advisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and HR best practice.
  • Experience managing complex employee relations casework.
  • Ability to analyse workforce data and provide practical business solutions.
  • Proactive, customer-focused approach and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional HR advice and support on employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance, capability, attendance management and performance issues.
  • Support managers through formal meetings, hearings and organisational change processes as a HR representative.
  • Lead on TUPE projects across the Council and support restructures and redundancies.
  • Develop and review HR policies, procedures and guidance in line with legislation and best practice.
  • Build relationships with managers, schools, trade unions and stakeholders.
  • Deliver training, workshops and coaching to improve people management capability.
  • Use workforce data and analytics to support workforce planning and service improvement.
  • Keep up to date with employment law and HR practice to ensure accurate advice.

1x Permanent, Full-time 37 hours per week


Salary: PO3 – 6, £39862 to £42839 per annum

We are looking for an experienced and motivated HR Advisor to join our HR Advisory Team. This is an exciting opportunity for a CIPD-qualified HR professional, or someone with substantial HR advisory experience, to provide high-quality, business-focused HR support across a diverse range of services, schools, and external customers.


Working as part of a professional HR team, you will advise managers on complex employee relations matters, support organisational change projects, develop policies, and contribute to the delivery of an efficient and customer-focused HR service.


Key responsibilities include:



  • Provide professional HR advice and support on employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance, capability, attendance management, and performance issues

  • Support managers through formal meetings, hearings, and organisational change processes attending as a HR representative

  • Lead on support to Directorates for restructuring, redundancy, and TUPE projects across the Council

  • Support the development and review of HR policies, procedures, and guidance in line with employment legislation and best practice.

  • Build effective relationships with managers, schools, trade unions, and key stakeholders

  • Deliver training, workshops, and coaching to improve people management capability

  • Use workforce data and analytics to support workforce planning and service improvement

  • Keep up to date of developments in employment law and HR practice, ensuring advice remains accurate


About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:



  • CIPD Level 5 qualification (or equivalent) or significant demonstrable experience working in an HR Advisor role

  • Strong knowledge of employment law and HR best practice

  • Experience managing complex employee relations casework

  • Excellent communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills

  • Experience supporting organisational change, including restructures, redundancies, and TUPE transfers

  • The ability to analyse workforce data and provide practical business-focused solutions

  • A proactive, customer-focused approach and the ability to work independently while contributing to a supportive team environment

Interviews will be held in person in Halifax Town Hall or Princess Buildings.
