Job summary

UK Research and Innovation's Laboratory of Molecular Biology requires an IT specialist to maintain the Scientific Computing facilities, including the HPC cluster and petabyte-scale storage, supporting neurobiology research from molecules to organisms.

You will install, upgrade and document systems, assist users with deep learning workflows, and lead infrastructure projects in collaboration with the Head of Scientific Computing.

Qualifications

• Essential: Degree in Computing, Science or equivalent subject.
• Desirable: MSc/MA/PhD in computing qualifications.
• Essential: Experience of server administration and/or system development.
• Desirable: Experience integrating Linux servers into a heterogeneous client environment.
• Essential: Experience of supporting Linux/Unix systems.
• Desirable: Experience with containers (e.g. Apptainer/Singularity).

Responsibilities

• To be responsible for day-to-day provision and maintenance of Scientific Computing services.
• Initiate and act as independent project manager for infrastructure services/projects.
• Develop, test, upgrade and maintain hardware and software solutions.
• Research, develop and maintain HPC cluster and petabyte data storage systems.
• Create and maintain documentation describing system configuration and operation.
