Do you want to help vulnerable households in need? Do you put the person at the centre of what you do? Do you have the resilience to thrive in a busy working environment? If so, we would love you to apply for the post of Housing Sustainability Officer in the Housing First team.
The role
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a busy, exciting team that helps and supports some of the most vulnerable people in Sheffield. Housing First provides intensive support to people experiencing homelessness and sleeping rough in Sheffield, based upon the seven principles of Housing First England:
We work with people throughout the homelessness process and into their own settled accommodation, assisting them with rehousing, tenancy sustainment, help with income support, managing appointments, and engaging with other services in the city.
A key aspect of the role involves working with internal and external partners in a multi-agency focused approach to fully understand the holistic needs of the person. The successful candidates must understand issues that cause rough sleeping, be empathetic towards the clients, and have clear professional boundaries. They must also be able to manage expectations and work within the limits of the resources available.
You will be working in a team with skilled and experienced officers and managers who would be on hand to support you. In this role, you will be expected to visit and actively engage people in their homes or accommodation, in day centres, and on the street.
Housing First is a proactive team which uses assertive outreach to engage and work with clients. There will also be times you will be required to work at different work sites, including various temporary accommodation sites across the city.
Who we are looking for
To be successful, you must demonstrate a clear person-centred focus, with an ability to prioritise and organise your work. We need excellent communicators who work well on their own initiative but are also flexible team players. It is important to be resilient and hardworking, with a keenness to learn. You must have a dynamic attitude and take the initiative with your work.
Many people we support in the Housing First team have experienced significant trauma, and this can be reflected in their engagement with services. An ability to see and understand the whole picture and approach your work through a trauma-informed approach is therefore essential in this role.
