Job summary

The London Borough of Newham is seeking an Housing Adviser to support vulnerable residents by providing housing advice and homelessness prevention. You will assess needs, create Personal Housing Plans and advocate for positive outcomes while working within statutory frameworks.

Responsibilities include managing a varied caseload, making informed decisions, and contributing to service improvements within the Homelessness Prevention & Advice Service. Closing date: 25.10.26.

Qualifications

• Experience of providing housing advice and homelessness prevention services.
• Demonstrates strong understanding of homelessness and housing legislation.
• Able to work independently and manage competing priorities effectively.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
• Empathy, resilience and commitment to excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

• Prevent homelessness through tailored housing advice, advocacy, negotiation and mediation.
• Assess housing needs of individuals and families with complex circumstances.
• Make decisions under Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, and related legislation.
• Manage a complex caseload and develop Personal Housing Plans with customers.
• Issue statutory decisions and maintain accurate case records.
• Undertake home visits when appropriate and collaborate with partners.
