Job summary

Civic Recruitment Limited is seeking a Housing Litigation Lawyer for Hackney Council on a six-month contract. The role involves providing high-quality legal advice, advocacy, and support on housing litigation matters, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and professional standards.

The postholder will manage a varied caseload, work with internal clients and external stakeholders, and deliver practical, customer-focused legal services within 37 hours per week at Hackney locations.

Qualifications

• Qualified solicitor, barrister or CILEX fellow with housing litigation experience.
• Experience managing a caseload of housing matters.
• Experience advocacy in courts or tribunals.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of housing litigation matters with independence.
• Provide clear legal advice on housing law and processes to Council officers.
• Undertake advocacy in courts, tribunals, hearings and other forums.
• Draft legal documents, reports and complex legal advice.
• Research and interpret legislation and case law relevant to housing litigation.
• Represent the Council at court hearings and advise on strategy and outcomes.
• Support preparation of evidence and legal arguments in housing-related proceedings.
• Maintain accurate case records and ensure timely delivery of work.
• Collaborate with housing teams and departments to provide practical legal solutions.
• Attend client meetings, briefings, committee meetings and external meetings as required.
• Deliver legal training and briefings to officers and elected Members where appropriate.
• Monitor housing legislation developments and advise on impact.
• Maintain professional knowledge and undertake continuous development.
• Support and supervise junior colleagues as required.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and modernisation of the Legal Service.
• Ensure compliance with confidentiality, equality, data protection and regulatory standards.
