Job summary

Essential Employment is seeking a Housing Enforcement Officer for a temporary, full-time role in Northampton. The officer will conduct property inspections, HHSRS assessments, and enforcement actions including notices and penalties under the Housing Act.

You will work with HMOs and other services to ensure compliance and high standards in the private rented sector. The role requires hands-on enforcement experience, ability to operate with minimal supervision, and delivery within statutory

Qualifications

HHSRS competency required.
Experience carrying out housing inspections and enforcement activity.
Strong knowledge of housing legislation with proven enforcement powers.

Responsibilities

Undertake property inspections, HHSRS assessments, drafting schedules of work and notices, interviewing under caution, executing warrants and works in default to prepare cases for prosecution or civil penalties.
Work with owners/managers of licensable HMOs to ensure licensing, maintenance, and compliance with HMO regulations.
Respond promptly to serious disrepair and nuisance complaints, assess risks, determine remedies and urgency, and coordinate actions to resolve issues.
Develop and maintain relationships with other services to ensure coordinated service delivery and keep users informed.
