Job summary

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust in Harlow is seeking a Housekeeping Supervisor to manage and train the ward housekeeping team, ensuring high standards of food safety and allergen awareness in Food and Beverage Service.

You will oversee rosters, sickness cover, and staff appraisals, coordinate deliveries, and ensure safe working practices and COSHH compliance across ward kitchens. Flexibility to cover shifts and liaise with Estates and Catering Manager is required.

Qualifications

• Maintenance of a high standard of patient services which meets the agreed specification.
• Training including on the job training and local induction for new staff and refresher training for staff when required.
• Issuing and recording of all uniforms given to staff
• Carry out staff appraisals
• Allocation of work to cover unplanned absence e.g. sickness
• Completion of rotas ensuring cover for annual leave and sickness
• Assist in the general welfare and discipline of staff
• Undertake return to work meetings.
• Check delivery and presentation of Food and Beverages served to patients, ensure wards store cupboards are replenished and deliveries unpacked.
• Issue and record any ad hoc items required by wards.
• Monitor usage of cleaning products and kitchen Standards
• Ensure all staff use safe working methods
• Carry out quality checks on ward kitchens
• Ensure that the waste is bring disposed of correctly and recorded accordingly
• Check all machinery is in good and safe working order, reporting any faults to the Estates Helpline and manager.
• Assist and supervise with special Dietary requirements
• To comply with national and local policies and procedures in relation to Health and Safety, COSHH and Fire Regulations.
• Reporting of all accidents, incidents or near misses on the DATIX system.
• Attend training sessions as required for future development.
• Carry out any other duties required by the House Keeping/ Catering Manager
• To work closely with other supervisors
• Liaise with Heads of Departments/ Ward Managers and other staff.
• Ensure Food safety and Allergen Awareness is being undertaken and acknowledged.

Job Overview

Housekeeping Supervisor

Responsible for the line management and training of the housekeeping staff in the provision of the Food and Beverage Services on the wards at the Princess Alexandra Hospital whilst adhering to and maintaining the required high standards within food safety and allergen awareness guidelines and legislations.

Flexibility in this role is essential as the requirement to change shifts will be required to support annual leave and sickness cover within the supervisory team.
