Job summary

West Dean is seeking reliable Casual Housekeepers & General Cleaners to join our housekeeping team at West Dean, Sussex. The role involves cleaning guest rooms, offices and public spaces across the estate, with a focus on maintaining high cleanliness standards and welcoming environments for visitors.

Prior housekeeping experience is desirable; training will be provided for Health & Safety and COSHH. The position offers flexible casual hours and a rate of £12.77 per hour with 12.07% holiday pay.

Qualifications

• Previous housekeeping or cleaning experience is desirable.
• Knowledge of Health & Safety and COSHH is beneficial, training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Clean guest bedrooms, bathrooms, offices and communal areas.
• Make beds and replenish towels, linen and guest supplies.
• Vacuum, dust, mop and polish various surfaces.
• Clean internal and external areas including courtyards and public spaces.
• Maintain cleanliness of historic State Rooms following conservation standards.
• Restock cleaning cupboards and supplies.
• Report maintenance issues and damaged equipment.
• Use cleaning products and equipment safely per Health & Safety procedures.
• Work independently and as part of a housekeeping team.
• Help maintain a welcoming environment for visitors and guests.

We're looking for reliable and enthusiastic Casual Housekeepers & General Cleaners to join our Housekeeping team and help maintain the high standards of cleanliness and presentation across our historic estate.

About the role

As a Casual Housekeeper & General Cleaner, you'll play an important role in creating a clean, safe and welcoming environment for our students, visitors and guests.

Working across the estate, you'll carry out a variety of housekeeping and cleaning duties in guest accommodation, offices, communal areas and historic buildings, helping to ensure every area is maintained to an exceptional standard.

This is a varied, hands‑on role that requires flexibility, attention to detail and pride in delivering excellent customer service.

What you'll be doing

• Cleaning guest bedrooms, bathrooms, offices and communal areas
• Making beds and replenishing towels, linen and guest supplies
• Vacuuming, dusting, mopping and polishing a variety of surfaces
• Cleaning internal and external areas, including courtyards and public spaces
• Maintaining the cleanliness of our historic State Rooms in accordance with conservation standards
• Restocking cleaning cupboards and supplies
• Reporting maintenance issues and damaged equipment
• Using cleaning products and equipment safely and in line with Health & Safety procedures
• Working independently and as part of a supportive housekeeping team
• Helping to maintain a welcoming environment for all visitors and guests

About you

We're looking for someone who:

• Has excellent attention to detail and takes pride in their work
• Enjoys working as part of a team as well as independently
• Has a positive, reliable and flexible approach
• Delivers excellent customer service
• Can manage a varied workload and follow established procedures
• Is physically able to undertake a role involving standing, walking and some lifting

Previous housekeeping or cleaning experience is desirable, as is knowledge of Health & Safety and COSHH, although training will be provided where appropriate.
