Job summary

Rotherham Hospice Ltd is seeking a dedicated Housekeeper to maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment for patients and families at The Rotherham Hospice.

You will report to the Housekeeping Manager and ensure impeccable cleanliness throughout the hospice, adhering to infection control practices and safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Experience in housekeeping or cleaning roles, preferably in healthcare or hospitality.
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques and equipment used in healthcare.
• Ability to prioritise tasks and work independently.
• Strong attention to detail and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Room Cleaning and Maintenance: Clean and sanitize patient rooms, bathrooms, communal areas, and offices according to protocols.
• Linen and Laundry Services: collect, sort, launder linens, towels and bedding, monitor inventory.
• Waste Management: dispose of waste according to policies.
• Infection Control: follow hygiene practices and PPE guidelines.
• Assistance with Special Projects: support housekeeping manager with deep cleaning tasks.
• Equipment Maintenance: operate and maintain cleaning equipment.

Housekeeper

Location: The Rotherham Hospice

Salary : £24,853 per annum

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week (4 on 4 off shift)

About the Role

At Rotherham Hospice, our Housekeepers are essential in creating a clean, safe, and welcoming environment that directly impacts the well-being and comfort of our patients and their families. Your role as a Housekeeper is crucial in ensuring that every patient experiences the highest standard of care and comfort during their time with us.

Reporting to the Housekeeping Manager, you will take pride in maintaining impeccable cleanliness and hygiene throughout our hospice.

Your attention to detail and dedication to maintaining a pristine environment will help us provide a sanctuary of peace and dignity for our patients and their loved ones.

Key Responsibilities

• Room Cleaning and Maintenance: Clean and sanitize patient rooms, bathrooms, communal areas, and office spaces according to established cleaning protocols and schedules. Dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and sweeping floors, as well as cleaning surfaces, furniture, and fixtures to maintain a tidy and hygienic environment.
• Linen and Laundry Services: Collect, sort, and launder linens, towels, and bedding, ensuring they are clean, well-maintained, and properly stored for use by patients and staff. Monitor linen inventory levels, replenish supplies as needed, and assist with linen distribution throughout the hospice facility.
• Waste Management: Dispose of waste and recyclable materials in accordance with waste management policies and procedures, ensuring proper handling and disposal to maintain cleanliness and safety.
• Infection Control Practices: Adhere to infection control standards and protocols, including hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and cleaning procedures to prevent the spread of infections.
• Assistance with Special Projects: Assist the Housekeeping Manager and other team members with special cleaning projects, deep cleaning tasks, and seasonal cleaning activities as needed
• Equipment Maintenance: Operate and maintain cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, steamer, floor scrubbers, and other tools, ensuring they are in good working condition and properly maintained.
• Safety and Security: Report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or security concerns to the Housekeeping Manager or appropriate staff members for timely resolution. Follow safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for oneself and others.

Personal Specification

Essential

• Previous experience in housekeeping or cleaning roles, preferably in a healthcare or hospitality setting
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques, products, and equipment used in a healthcare environment is advantageous.
• Ability to prioritise tasks, manage time effectively, and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong attention to detail, thoroughness, and reliability in performing cleaning tasks.

Desired

• Experience of working in a similar role in a Hospice setting
• Basic understanding of infection control practices and procedures is desirable
• A full UK driving license.
