Vanrath is seeking a Household Recycling Centre Attendant for a 3-month contract in the public sector. The role focuses on delivering a high‑quality recycling service at Civic Amenity sites, handling cash, directing traffic, and maintaining site safety and cleanliness in all weathers.

The ideal candidate will have at least 6 months in a waste environment, strong health and safety awareness, and proven teamwork and customer service skills. Training and development opportunities are provided.

Qualifications

• One year of relevant experience in a waste environment or similar.
• Minimum of 6 months experience in a waste environment.
• Knowledge of health and safety procedures including manual handling and assisting drivers reversing.
• Knowledge of waste collection, disposal and recycling issues.
• Traffic management experience.
• Ability to work in a team and in a customer service environment.

Responsabilités

• Operate the Household Recycling Centre and promote recycling to site users.
• Handle cash per procedures, issue receipts and deposit cash.
• Direct traffic, issue tipping directions and assist the public with tipping.
• Keep the site and surroundings clean, including the site office and facilities.
• Maintain approach road and verge near the site.
• Complete site records and issue Controlled Waste transfer notes.
• Open the site each morning and lock it at night, ensuring the alarm is set.

Household Recycling Centre Attendant (Public Sector)

Our public sector client is seeking an experienced and motivated Household Recycling Centre Attendant to join their Operations team. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a well-structured organisation delivering essential frontline services to the community. This will be an initial 3 month contract with great likelihood of extension.

The Role

Working within the Environmental Cleansing Service (Refuse Service) the postholder will be required to provide, in a safe and effective manner, a quality and effective recycling service at the Civic Amenity and Recycling Centres, in all weather conditions.

The postholder is the Council's interface with the public and is required to interact with the public in a courteous and appropriate manner, and to ensure that environmental standards are met and maintained in accordance with site operational conditions and procedures.

• Responsible for the operation of the Household Recycling Centre and the promotion of recycling to all site users
• Cash handling in accordance with procedures, for all cash received at Household Recycling Centre sites, to include issue of receipts and deposit of cash to safe. Collection and recording of all prepaid vouchers presented by commercial customers using the site.
• Control traffic entering and leaving the site, issue of directions for tipping and assistance to the public with tipping as required.
• Responsible for the upkeep and cleansing of the site and its surrounds to include the site office and facilities. Eg spreading salt
• Responsible for the general maintenance of the approach road and verge in the immediate vicinity of the site, which is under Client control. Eg spreading salt
• Completion of all associated records and paperwork as required, including site records and issue of Controlled Waste transfer notes.
• Ensure the Household Recycling Centre site is opened each morning and locked each evening as appropriate, ensuring that the alarm system is activated accordingly.

The Ideal Person

Applicants must be able to demonstrate, by providing personal and specific examples, that they have one years' relevant experience to include:

• Minimum of 6 months previous relevant work experience in a waste environment
• Working knowledge of health and safety procedures including manual handling and assisting driver whilst reversing
• Knowledge of waste collection/disposal and recycling issues
• Traffic management
• Working within a team environment
• Working within a customer service environment dealing with complaints and queries from the general public
