Job summary

Colchester Institute is seeking an hourly paid Lecturer in ESOL at Colchester Campus to support ESOL provision with planning, delivery, assessment and tutoring. The role requires maintaining attendance records and helping ensure quality across programmes.

Ideal candidates will have varied ESOL teaching experience, a Level 3 qualification or higher, and a CELTA/TESOL certificate, with a Level 5 teaching qualification or progress toward it.

Qualifications

• Varied EFL/ESOL teaching experience across topics and levels.
• Ability to teach a range of ESOL-related options e.g. exam prep, writing, maths or IT.

Responsibilities

• Comprehensive teaching responsibilities (assessing, preparation, delivery, marking, individual student tutoring and marking).
• Maintain attendance records as required.
• Collaborate with Area Head and course leaders to ensure quality provision across delivery teams.
• Attend up to 3 meetings a year as required by Head of Area.
• Support internal verification procedures and respond to external verification requirements.
• Monitor standards of students’ work against awarding body guidelines and raise achievement levels.
• Develop and update personal professional expertise in relevant ESOL areas.

Hourly Paid Lecturer in ESOL

0-20 Hours per week

Colchester Campus

About the role:

• Comprehensive teaching responsibilities (assessing, preparation, delivery, marking, individual student tutoring and marking).
• To maintain appropriate student attendance records as required.
• Work with Area Head, Assistant Area Head and other course leaders to ensure management of quality provision throughout the different programme’s delivery teams.
• To attend, as required, up to 3 meetings a year as specified by the Head of Area. They may include parents’ evenings, course review meetings and curriculum development meetings.
• Maintain quality of provision by participating in ongoing internal verification procedures and processes and ensuring appropriate requirements for external verification, communicating outcomes to senior colleagues as required.
• To monitor standards of students’ work against awarding body guidelines and to raise achievement levels
• To develop and update personal professional expertise in the relevant areas.

Essential Experience:

• Varied EFL/ESOL Teaching Experience, indicating ability to;

1. Teach any aspect of the syllabus

2. Contribute to the range of options offered within the section: Exam Preparation, Maths, IT, Work Skills, Writing Classes or offer additional subjects.

• Able to demonstrate experience of working with learners with a wide range of needs.

Essential Qualifications:

• Education to Level 3 or above and/or a professional qualification in ESOL, English Language, TESOL, TEFL, or English Language Teaching.

• Minimum of Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics GCSE 4+ or C and above / CSE Level 1 / O-Level C or above / Level 2 Adult Numeracy or Literacy or equivalent

• Level 5 Teaching Qualification / completing within 3 years of employment or 3 years of the first available course.

• Cambridge CELTA or Trinity TESOL Certificate.
