Job summary

SpaMedica is the UK’s largest NHS cataract surgery provider and invites a Hospital Optometrist to join our team in Colchester. The role focuses on pre- and post-operative cataract assessments, with opportunities to expand into Medical Retina and Glaucoma.

Training is provided, with senior optometrists available for support. The position runs 37.5 hours weekly across Mon–Sat (one in four Saturdays), with on-call duties included.

Qualifications

• Qualified optometrist with current GOC registration.
• Willingness to develop further in hospital optometry and related specialties.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre- and post-operative assessments for cataract surgery patients.
• Conduct pre-op assessments for YAG laser capsulotomy referrals.
• Obtain informed consent in a professional and ethical manner.
• Participate in on-call and weekend rota as needed.
• Ensure clinical area is ready with equipment checked before/after clinics.
• Complete basic life support training.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team in daily clinic operations.
