Job summary

Serco at Great Western Hospital seeks a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to maintain critical mechanical building services within a busy hospital environment. The role requires participation in a two-week rotating shift pattern, weekend rota and out-of-hours call-out to ensure patient safety and service continuity.

You will maintain boilers, pumps, ventilation and heating systems, document activities in CAFM, and adhere to safety standards and permit-to-work procedures.

Qualifications

• Completed a recognised mechanical apprenticeship or equivalent structured training.
• Supported by a Level 3 qualification such as NVQ, City and Guilds, or equivalent.
• Experience maintaining mechanical building services in regulated environments.

Responsibilities

• Complete planned preventive maintenance, reactive repairs, inspections, servicing, fault-finding and testing on mechanical building services.
• Maintain and repair boilers, pumps, heating and chilled water systems, calorifiers, pressure systems and plant room equipment.
• Support ventilation system operation including air handling units, extract systems, fans and controls.
• Respond to plant failures, alarms, leaks and service interruptions; escalate risks as needed.
• Record maintenance activity and asset information in CAFM system.
• Work safely with permits, risk assessments and local safe systems of work.
