Job summary

Yorwaste is seeking a permanent, full-time Hook Driver based at Harewood Whin, York. You will operate waste collection vehicles, ensuring safety and compliance while delivering a reliable service to commercial customers across York and North Yorkshire.

Working Sunday to Wednesday, 12 hours per day, start 5:00 AM with a half-hour lunch deduction. You will need a Category C licence with CPC and be prepared to adapt to changing routes and weather. Training and a supportive team await you.

Qualifications

• Must hold Category C (Class 2) licence with no disqualifications.
• Must hold Driver CPC as required by law.
• Experience in the waste industry is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Drive Yorwaste vehicles to deliver services to commercial customers across York and North Yorkshire.
• Operate safely and in line with health and safety standards.
• Coordinate with transport planners and team to ensure efficient, reliable service.

Pay: £17.04 per hour

Contract: Permanent, full-time

Hours: 48 hpw - working days Sunday to Wednesday,12 hours per day – start time 5 AM until 5:30 PM (Half hour lunch deducted)

Location: Harewood Whin Waste Transfer Station, Tinker Lane, York YO23 3RR

Yorwaste's Drivers are responsible for providing services to our commercial customers across York and North Yorkshire. Working independently, you will show good management of personal workload, ensuring the safe operation and driving of our various vehicles, in-line with our health and safety standards.

As a Hook Driver, you will demonstrate good organisational and time-management skills, adapting to varying routes and schedules based on the evolving needs of our clients and the business. Being a positive and enthusiastic person, you will be able to adapt to operational obstacles that may arise in varying weather conditions. Excellent communication skills are required to coordinate regularly with our transport planners and the wider team, ensuring an efficient and friendly service.

This is a permanent, full-time position, working days Sunday to Wednesday 12 hours per day – start time 5 AM until 5:30 PM (Half hour lunch deducted). You may be required to work additional hours and bank holidays, so availability during these times is important, as is the ability to cover holidays and sickness as needed.

Essential Qualifications

• Category C Drivers Licence (Class 2) with no historical driving disqualifications.
• Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
