This is an exciting time to join the Children and Young Peoples’ Travel Service (CYPTS). CYPTS currently provide 6,000 children and young people for whom without transport provision would not be able to attend education.
There is now the opportunity to join the CYPTS Leadership Team to support the delivery of our statutory duty of providing suitable transport for eligible students, ensuring that their needs are met and promoting independence and sustainable transport.
This is a unique new opportunity as the role of Home to School Transport Senior Lead is a critical role to the success of CYPTS providing strategic leadership and direction to the delivery of Travel Operations, Travel Passenger and Schools Travel Liaison & Compliance Services. This role will deputise for the Director of Children’s Commissioning and Performance as required.
A strategic and experienced people professional with a strong background in service improvement and stakeholder engagement for a transport provision service.
Bringing extensive experience in leading initiatives that shape and evolve transport operations, passenger assistant and compliance and safeguarding services for children and young people.
Adept at diagnosing organisational needs and translating insight into evidence‑based solutions that align with broader people strategies.
Skilled in managing high‑impact projects, navigating conflicting demands, and delivering innovative, future‑focused transport outcomes for children and young people with budget constraints. Combining excellent interpersonal, influencing, and communication skills with a data‑led mindset to drive continuous improvement.
Comfortable providing high‑level advice, guidance, knowledge, and proven excellent customer services of the challenges faced by children and young people with special educational needs and their families. Knowledge of special educational needs, disabilities, medical issues and mobility issues, with a deep understanding of how to align policy with operational and strategic goals.
The role will offer hybrid working with travel across Birmingham.
