Job Title: Home Portfolio Analyst

Location: Leicester / Bexhill / London

Hybrid: Expected in the office once a week

Role

The Underwriting Portfolio Analyst will work with the Portfolio Underwriting Manager with the aim of delivering our profit and growth targets for home, initially through launching into three new segments of business: Contents only, Buildings only and mid net worth, and subsequently through regular analysis of our existing risk appetite.

Accountabilities

  • Support the Portfolio Underwriting Manager in developing a plan and driving forward the launch into the new portfolio segments for home underwriting, with the Technical Underwriters owning all underwriting aspects of these segments.
  • Support the Portfolio Underwriting Manager in implementing the mid to long term Portfolio Underwriting strategy for the new segments portfolio.
  • Through regular monitoring and rigorous analysis, identify opportunities to expand and contract underwriting footprint to maximise growth and improve profitability.
  • Analyse various data sources (including loss, policy, quote and market data) to identify opportunities to improve our underwriting.
  • Develop and deliver new insight, including the integration of new data, innovative techniques and ways of working.
  • Work closely with Actuarial, Data Science, Risk Pricing, Data Engineering, Account Management, Retail and Counter Fraud / Digital teams.
  • Represent the home team on underwriting projects to generate value for the wider business.
  • Ensure we meet customers’ fair and reasonable expectations and provide fair outcomes for our customers.

Essential Skills

  • Comfortable working with and analysing numerical/statistical data.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL.
  • Collaborates well with colleagues from own team and other teams.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of the personal lines insurance market; other backgrounds will be considered, including non-insurance backgrounds.
