Job summary

Mitie Group plc. in the United Kingdom is seeking a General Maintenance Operative to support planned and reactive maintenance within a secure custodial environment at HMP Millsike, North Yorkshire. The role is 40 hours per week, Mon–Fri with shift rota and call-out requirements.

You will work across prison fabric maintenance, liaising with engineers and subcontractors, and ensuring safety policies and procedures are followed. Full training provided; inclusive and supportive workplace.

Qualifications

• Previous relevant experience providing general maintenance services in a large, complex environment.
• Basic to intermediate IT skills with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook, and experience updating central data systems.

Responsibilities

• Completing planned and reactive maintenance and monitoring of all prison fabric within scope.
• Conducting tasks in compliance with Company Safety Policy, Procedures, NR, and Statutory Regulations, ensuring Permit to Work adherence.
• Liaising with engineers and subcontractors, developing knowledge of site engineering services, and supporting best working practices.
• Completing all work-related documentation accurately and on time, coordinating connections to existing plant/systems, and using/maintaining O&M Manuals and quality procedures.

ROLE: General Maintenance Operative

Role Responsibilities:

• The role involves completing planned and reactive maintenance and monitoring of all prison fabric within scope.
• You will conduct tasks in compliance with Company Safety Policy, Procedures, relevant Codes of Practice, NR, and Statutory Regulations, ensuring adherence to the Company's and Clients' Permit to Work Systems.
• You will liaise with engineers and subcontractors, develop a detailed knowledge and understanding of site engineering services, and support best working practices.
• You must complete all work-related documentation accurately and on time, coordinate connections to existing plant/systems, and use and maintain O&M Manuals and quality procedures.

Required Qualifications:

• Previous relevant experience providing general maintenance services in a large, complex environment.
• Basic to intermediate IT skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook, with experience updating central data systems.

Additional Requirements (Security & Vetting):

Right to Work in the UK with valid, in‑date documentation.
Continuous UK residency for the past 3 years, with limited overseas travel.
Successful completion of Enhanced DBS, 5-year referencing, and CTC vetting.
