Job description

As a Healthcare Assistant based at HMP Chelmsford, your days will be rewarding and varied. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing high-quality patient care under the guidance of qualified nurses and therapists
  • Setting up and preparing for clinics
  • Supporting patients attending clinics

Shifts are between 7am and 7pm. This role is for 20 hours per week.

About our prisons service:

We operate round-the-clock, nurse-led healthcare, including prisoner screening on arrival, primary care such as minor surgery, in-patient units, and prescribing. We coordinate with various service providers to ensure seamless care.

The safety of our team and the vulnerable individuals we care for is our priority. We work closely with prison management to maximize wing-based care, reducing risks and improving waiting times and appointment adherence.

Our teams believe that prisoners should receive healthcare comparable to that in the community. Improving their health reduces reoffending.

Main duties of the job:

Within this role, you will:

  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, participating in procedures and duties according to standards
  • Assess care needs and implement holistic care programs
  • Assist with medication dispensing under supervision, following policies
  • Manage medicines safely, including administration, storage, and transportation, after appropriate training
  • Maintain client privacy and dignity
  • Promote health and wellbeing
  • Perform clinical interventions delegated by senior staff
  • Maintain clear records
  • Assist with administrative duties
  • Collaborate with other professionals involved in client care
