Job summary

Positive Futures Recruitment is hiring an experienced HLTA to join a specialist school in Effingham, Surrey, supporting autistic students aged 11–16. The role covers whole-class and small-group teaching, with lead responsibilities in the absence of the Class Teacher.

You’ll plan, prepare and deliver learning activities, assess progress and adapt approaches to meet individual needs, while fostering a warm, safe learning environment and consistent behaviour expectations.

Qualifications

• HLTA Diploma (Level 4) or equivalent.
• Experience working with SEN in an educational setting.
• GCSE Maths and English at level 4 or above.
• Full UK driving licence desirable.
• Level 2 or above in Support work for Teaching and Learning in Schools desirable.

Responsibilities

• Support the Class Teacher with day-to-day class operations.
• Teach whole classes, groups and individual lessons in consultation with the Class Teacher.
• Lead in absence of the Class Teacher and assess, record and report progress.
• Plan and deliver teaching activities and adapt as needed within supervision.
• Provide care support and manage behaviour to support pupil learning.
• Build warm, caring relationships to help pupils feel safe and engage in learning.
• Be flexible and assist across the SEN classroom as required.
