Job summary

Harris Primary Academy Shortlands, part of the Harris Federation, seeks a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to support teachers, run targeted activities and monitor pupil progress. The role aligns with structured supervision and a focus on raising standards across key stages.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above.
• NVQ Level 3, or equivalent.
• Knowledge of learning barriers, including special needs.
• Experience contributing to and assessing provision for children with a range of needs.
• Some knowledge of social issues facing students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
• At least two years' school based experience as a TA, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Complementing the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for agreed activities under supervision; planning, preparing and delivering learning activities for individuals/groups or short term for whole classes and monitoring children and assessing progress.
• Managing and developing teaching within the academy and/or supervising other teaching assistants including allocation and monitoring of work, appraisal and training.
• Taking a lead role within the academy to address needs of children who need help to overcome barriers to learning under supervision.
• Supporting children, the teacher and the academy to raise standards of achievement for all (SEN, EAL, More Able, underachieving groups).
• Encouraging independent learning and supporting welfare and inclusion of children in all academy life.
