Job summary

Connex Education is seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) for Handsworth on a full-time, long-term basis. The HLTA will support the class teacher, lead learning activities and help deliver pre-planned lessons to keep pupils engaged.

The role focuses on maintaining high behaviour standards, delivering targeted support, and working collaboratively with staff to progress student learning throughout the academic year.

Qualifications

• Minimum Level 3 Teaching and Learning qualification required.
• Experience in school or educational setting preferred.
• Experience as a Teaching Assistant or similar education role.
• Confident leading learning activities and supporting teaching across the classroom.
• Strong behaviour management and communication skills.
• Willingness to take on additional responsibility.
• Patient, enthusiastic and adaptable approach.
• Ability to work as part of a wider school team.
• Willingness to obtain an enhanced DBS if not registered on Update Service.
• Provide a minimum of 2 references, including most recent employer.

Responsibilities

• Support class teacher with delivery of engaging and effective lessons.
• Lead whole-class, small-group and individual learning activities.
• Deliver pre-planned lessons when required.
• Support pupils to stay focused, engaged and motivated.
• Help maintain high standards of behaviour and classroom management.
• Provide targeted support to help pupils make progress.
• Work collaboratively with teachers and other staff.
• Prepare and organise classroom resources and activities.
• Build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
• Contribute to a positive, inclusive and engaging learning environment.
