About The Role

Contract Type: Fixed Term
Working Hours: Full Time, 35 hours per week
Number of Positions: 1
Start Date: 1st September 2025
Salary: £28,163 - £31,067 per annum

The Governors of this successful, voluntary aided school are looking to appoint an inspirational and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant to be part of our support staff team at St James CE Primary School, Birch in Rusholme.

As a HLTA, you will work with class teachers, SENDCO, and other staff to provide curriculum support and interventions for our children.

The role includes:
  • Delivering high-quality lessons during teacher release time, including planning and delivering learning activities for individuals, groups, and whole classes
  • Experience working with children with SEND
  • Building positive relationships with children across all year groups
  • Using effective and restorative behaviour strategies to support individuals and classes
About the Candidate

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is a qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with experience across EYFS, KS1, and KS2
  • Holds a HLTA qualification or QTS for Grade 5 salary
  • Has strength in SEND support and a calm, consistent approach
  • Understands how to support children with SEMH and additional needs respectfully and inclusively
  • Is flexible, reliable, and adaptable to different classes and situations
  • Works well in a team and shares ideas to improve provision
  • Is passionate about making a difference, especially for children needing extra support to succeed
About Us

St James’ C of E Primary School is located near Wilmslow Road, close to Platt Fields Park and the old Hollings Faculty of Manchester Metropolitan University, known as the Toast Rack.

With 218 pupils, our school is a one-form entry school with a 26-place Nursery. Our diverse community includes many pupils from ethnic minorities and those who speak English as an additional language.
