Job summary

Teach Now is seeking an enthusiastic History & Geography Teacher to join a secondary school in Essex. This part-time maternity cover role focuses on delivering approx. 60% History and 40% Geography, mainly KS3, with four days per week and Wednesday off. Hours are 8:30am-3:30pm during term time, starting 1 October 2026.

The role requires UK QTS or equivalent and a passion for safeguarding, with a collaborative approach within the Humanities team.

• Experience teaching History and Geography across KS3.
• Strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for the Humanities.

• Plan and deliver engaging, well-structured History and Geography lessons.
• Teach a timetable split of approximately 60% History and 40% Geography.
• Deliver lessons predominantly across KS3.

• Maintain high expectations for behaviour, participation and achievement.
• Assess progress and provide constructive feedback.
• Create a positive, well-managed classroom environment.

Location: Essex

Salary: £39,196-£58,120 (M1-UPS3), paid to scale and pro rata

Contract: Part-time, long-term maternity cover

Working pattern: Four days per week, with Wednesday off

Hours: 8:30am-3:30pm, term time only

Salary will depend on experience and position on the teacher pay scale.
