Job summary

HCA UK is recruiting a Medical Laboratory Assistant to support the Histology team based at Shropshire House in central London. The role involves sample receipt, processing, and close collaboration with pathologists and scientists to maintain quality standards.

You’ll gain exposure to a busy histology service with opportunities for Associate Practitioner development pathways and career growth within laboratory medicine.

Qualifications

• A patient centred approach with strong attention to detail and a focus on quality and safety.
• Previous experience working in a laboratory or healthcare environment.
• Good IT skills and confidence using laboratory or data systems.
• The ability to communicate clearly and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• A flexible approach to working hours, with the ability to work shifts and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Receive, register and process histology samples accurately using laboratory systems, ensuring patient data is correctly recorded.
• Handle, file and dispatch diagnostic material including microscope slides, paraffin blocks and specimens.
• Assist with cytological processing and support the ongoing development of the digital pathology service.
• Carry out routine equipment checks and contribute to maintaining a clean, organised and compliant laboratory environment.
