Job summary

The Methodist Church in Britain is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the Histology Department at Royal Derby Hospital, operated by University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. The role covers sample handling support, data entry, filing, stock and equipment upkeep, and tissue handling with safe chemical disposal, with training provided in-house.

Work pattern is Monday to Friday 07:30–19:30 with Saturdays on a rolling five-week roster, serving around 50,000 sample

Qualifications

• GCSE English, Science and Maths, or NVQ Level 2 Clinical Laboratory Support.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior staff with sample handling.
• Data entry, admin and filing.
• Deal with queries.
• Handle human tissue and dispose of chemicals.
• Maintain laboratory equipment.
• Replenish laboratory stocks and report low levels.
• Laboratory housekeeping.
